Minnesota Senator Tina Smith met with the Red River Valley Sugarbeet Growers Association on Wednesday. Protecting the sugar program in the farm bill is top-of-mind for local sugarbeet growers. “What a loss it is to not have the advocacy of Collin Peterson as the chair of the House Agriculture Committee. Senator Klobuchar and I are ready and willing to do everything we can,” said Smith. “I also talked about how it’s not too soon to discuss the next farm bill and where we might go with that. Of course, most sugarbeet producers grow other crops and the impact of the ups and downs of the ag sector affects them in many ways.”
