The combination of stronger commodity prices and government payments has supported farmland values. Farmers National Company Senior Vice President Matt Gunderson says the cash flow situation has brought renewed interest to land. “I was just in a meeting with a major lender that said the lending for land from a long-term financing perspective has hit an all-time high. On the flip side, the amount they are lending for operating loans is down because folks are using cash to pay down the operating note.” Since August, Gunderson says there has been increased interest in farmland from investors.
