Milk production in 24 key states totaled 17.7 billion pounds in October. That’s up 2.5 percent from one year ago. September milk production was also revised upward, rising 2.4 percent. The size of Minnesota’s cow herd declined by 3,000 head, but milk production increased nearly three percent. South Dakota dairy farmers added 13,000 cows to its herd and production rose nearly 13 percent.
