Soybean and Corn Advisor President Michael Cordonnier says the first half of South America’s growing season has not been very good. “The first half of the soybeans were planted many weeks later than normal and the second half of the crop may be planted at a normal pace,” says Cordonnier. “It’s important the first half was late, because it’s after the first half of soybeans they plant the second crop corn and cotton.” Brazil’s farmers will plant as many acres of soybeans as they can. “The price is vey good; record high in Brazil, but the corn will be planted late. My concern is La Nina is getting stronger. The forecast for Brazil is drier-than-normal weather in November, December and January. That’s less than ideal start, maybe a problematic middle and a problematic end.”
