The majority of the American Crystal Sugar Company’s sugarbeet harvest is complete in the just the first full week of the campaign. “We couldn’t ask for better conditions right now to get some sugarbeets piled,” said Joe Hastings, general agronomist, American Crystal Sugar Company. “It’s a breath of fresh air from what we’ve experienced the last two years; harvest can be enjoyable.” Tonnage is down slightly from early estimates, but the sugar content is higher. “We’re in the 27 ton range at this point and we continue to dial it in as we go through. It’s a nice crop. We may be behind on tonnage, but we had below normal August and September rains. The lack of rain can also create a darn nice sugar percentage for us.”
