As part of the North Dakota Grain Growers Association’s mini e-Tour this past week, the EPA held a roundtable discussion with North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring and others. The next steps on dicamba use were part of the discussion. According to Goehring, one good thing about the dicamba court case is it did force a new label to be developed. “It’s got to be simple and clear. The problem is we were investigating cases where everyone followed the label, but there was still a problem. Generally, when you’re investigating something and there’s an off target application, it’s because someone didn’t follow the label,” said Goehring. “When you have farmers following the label and there’s still a problem, there’s something wrong in the system. It’s not the farmer at this point and it’s not the product, maybe there are other things that need to be considered. That’s where we want to see changes.”
