Giving feedback in Friday’s roundtable discussion with Senator John Hoeven, the North Dakota Farmers Union and North Dakota Corn Growers Association asked for biofuels to be included in future COVID-19 relief. Other commodities, like potatoes, asked for more clarity and simplicity in future assistance. National Sunflower Association Executive Director John Sandbakken agreed. “Something to think about with the extra money could be an effort similar to a Market Facilitation Program per-acre payment. That may be easier for offices to administer,” said Sandbakken. “It could be based on certified acres on 2019 and cover the commodities not included in the first rounds. That could be another equitable way to get money to producers.”
