Milk production in the 24 major states totaled 17.8 billion pounds in July. That was up 1.5 percent from one year ago. Minnesota milk output also increased 1.5 percent. That increase came despite a 5,000 head decline in the cow herd. South Dakota had the biggest increase, up 11.5 percent. Over the past year, South Dakota dairies added 13,000 cows. Wisconsin milk production rose zero-point-five percent.
