Nebraska-based custom combiner J.C. Schemper is harvesting in central Montana. “We have seen some pretty big yields in the winter wheat from 45 bushels an acre to 90 bushels an acre. It’s been very good,” says Schemper. “Protein levels are at nine to 10 percent, nothing too big. We are seeing some nice test weights of 64 to 65 pounds.” The big yields are offsetting the lower protein. “The crop never struggled and the yields have been phenomenal.”
