A group of eight U.S. senators is asking the Trump Administration to reject plans to impose countervailing duties on phosphate fertilizers. Duties of 30-to-71 percent are proposed. A letter has been sent to the Commerce Department and the U.S. International Trade Commission saying this decision would impact farm input costs. A petition was filed in June, claiming phosphate fertilizer production is unfairly subsidized in Morocco and Russia.
