In the Wahpeton, North Dakota area, small grain harvest is about two-thirds complete by the first week of August. GL Crop Consulting President and agronomist Greg LaPlante says spring wheat and barley harvest is expected to wrap by the end of the week. “We took a lot of the heat and early drought conditions when we were in the tillering and jointing stage. So, we don’t have a bumper crop of wheat, but we have pretty much an average crop ranging from 45-to-60 bushels an acre, depending on the variety.” LaPlante thinks the protein and quality looks good so far.
