A lawsuit has been filed in the Northern District of California that seeks to abolish the national food labeling rules that will become mandatory in 2022. The new standards would require the use of the term ‘bioengineered,’ rather than ‘non-GMO’ or ‘genetically engineered.’ The Center for Food Safety and a handful of other consumer activist groups filed the lawsuit, claiming the labeling rules will confuse consumers.
