Allendale Chief Strategist Rich Nelson says the swine industry is expecting to see a build in the backlog of hogs. “The issue isn’t just a backlog in current hogs, but there are some concerns about the fourth quarter supply. We still aren’t meeting maximum processing capacity and some are suggesting we could have a minor, second backlog in November and December.” The issue is finding enough extra capacity to cut into the backlog of heavyweight hogs. “We had expected more progress on these issues by this time, but as it stands, the virus is still front and center right now.”
