The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee has released its final report, which will be used for federal nutrition standards over the next five years. The report advises the consumption of less added sugar. The current guidelines say people should not get more than ten percent of their calories from added sugars. That is cut to six percent in the new proposal. The recommendations also favor low-fat and fat-free dairy products, lean meat, whole grains, legumes, fruits and vegetables.
