The USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program has distributed more than 20 million food boxes. In a statement, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said this milestone is a testament that the program is accomplishing what was intended. The program is part of the Coronavirus Food Assistance program developed to help farmers, ranchers and consumer in response to COVID-19 national emergency. In less than 30 days, $1.2 billion in food products has been purchased by the program. Those numbers include $317 million in dairy products and $258 million in meat products. USDA has extended contracts with select vendors from the first round of the food box program. The extension period is for the next performance period running from July 1 through August 30 for up to $1.16 billion of food.
