The Minnesota legislative session wrapped up at midnight May 17 with unfinished business. A special session is expected in mid-June to address bonding. “In a democracy and the way the bonding bill is set up, you need to have bipartisan support; that didn’t happen,” said Governor Tim Walz. Part of the challenge of getting the bonding bill done was the cost and time. The COVID-19 pandemic changed the agenda in this year’s session. This also shifted around priorities for agriculture, including Section 179 conformity; there was no tax bill passed to include it. However, other agriculture provisions were passed including a bill on farmer-lender mediation and an agricultural policy bill.
