South Dakota Farmers Union president Doug Sombke says farmers and ranchers need something more than direct payments to steer through the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. “Farmers need to be able to have an inventory management and soil enhancement mechanism that’s individually based, higher blends of ethanol and Country of Origin Labeling in place.” Sombke says while lawmakers are considering additional money for direct payments, they need to take a harder look at what farmer’s need done. “We’ve been telling them all along, you give us these three things and we can fix a lot of the problem.”
