Fields are still muddy as area farmers begin planting. “We’re planting wheat and picking our fields here and there,” said Jim Bahm, a farmer from New Salem, North Dakota. “Some of it is black stubble and some of it is sunflower fields that have been vertical tilled.” Bahm said there’s at least one more week of spring wheat planting. As Bahm plants, some neighbors are harvesting 2019 crops. “There is standing corn that hasn’t been harvested in our area. I have at least one neighbor that’s harvesting sunflowers,” explained Bahm. “Those who have cattle are baling up corn stover before they feed it.”
