On Monday, JBS USA said it will be closing its Worthington, Minnesota pork production plant, because employees tested positive for the coronavirus. There are efforts underway to help those plant workers and Minnesota hog producers impacted by the closure of the packing plants. Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen said the department is helping farmers find homes for hogs that can’t go to the packing plant. “Some plants are able to take some of those pigs. Farmers are also trying to slow the growth rate of those pigs as well. We’re allowing farmers to hold more pigs on their farm at this time. Some farms may have to depopulate some pigs as well.”
