The coronavirus has caused a decline in live and feeder cattle prices, but how has it impacted the seed stock business? Since the beginning of winter, Western Ag Reporter field editor Will Bollum has been traveling across North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota providing ringside services for seedstock cattle producers. However, the coronavirus started to spread rapidly in the U.S. during the heart of the sale season. “Sale prices have been holding about the same as last year, several have even been up quite a bit. What’s really saving the industry is the option to bid online or over the phone,” says Bollum. “Some ranches aren’t allowing anyone on the premise, so a lot of buyers are getting their picks beforehand. Everyone is following the (CDC) recommendations.” Hear more for Bollum in this RRFN story.
