Dairy Management Incorporated is shifting its business plan. The dairy checkoff’s leadership sent a letter to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue outlining changes including a focus on four areas: schools, hunger and food service, industry partnerships and retail. “The checkoff’s mission of building sales and trust on behalf of U.S. dairy farmers and importers will prioritize limiting milk disposal and redirecting supply to serve those in the greatest need for the next two months,” said Barb O’Brien, president, Dairy Management Incorporated. CEO Tom Gallagher said there is still value in a farmer’s dairy checkoff investment. “It’s amazing to watch how the dairy supply chain and the entire supply chain is really connected to try and make these things work,” said Gallagher. “Without us, those things aren’t going to happen. Without us, there’s not going to be a push to get more cheese on the pizza where 25 percent of our cheese moves. If we can get another one or two percent, that’s a big number.”
