U.S. farmers intend to plant 97 million acres of corn in 2020, according to the USDA Prospective Plantings Report. That is an increase of eight percent from last year. If realized, this would be the highest planted acreage since 2012, with 38 of the 48 states expecting increased or unchanged acres. Soybean planting intentions are estimated at 83.5 million acres, up ten percent from 2019. All wheat planted area is projected at a record low of 44.7 million acres. Nationwide, both winter wheat and spring wheat plantings are expected to decline one percent from the previous year.
