Lawmakers in Washington D.C. are working on a third coronavirus package to help the U.S. economy. There will be provisions included in that $1 trillion package to help farmers and ranchers navigate tough times. Minnesota Senator Tina Smith says there’s work being done to help the livestock industry. “Solutions will help provide a buffer for producers who saw the dramatic loss in their equity in the cattle they have, because of this price drop. Also, milk prices are declining again due to the lack of demand. Farmers and producers are dependent on food processing facilities staying in business. We have to pay attention.” Smith says there is bipartisan interest in getting something done quickly. “Democrats and Republicans in Congress seem willing to come together and get something done. These are unprecedented challenges.”
