The latest spring flood outlook from the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks continues to call for moderate to major flooding for the Red River Basin similar to last year. Grand Forks-based NWS meteorologist Greg Gust says soil moisture remains relatively high which impacts spring runoff. Due to a cooler weather forecast, the flood risk is being pushed further into April. “The spring thaw cycle and heavy spring rains are something that can loom on us now. Since we are not expecting our temperature regime to get our spring flood going in the next week or two, we’re pushing our risk later on.”
