According to USDA Undersecretary Bill Northey, an announcement is forthcoming regarding WHIP+ payments for sugarbeet farmers. “This bill allows us to be able to work directly with co-ops and co-ops are unique in the way the loss of production impacts what they’re able to pay producers who still had production,” said Northey. “It’s not just support for folks who couldn’t deliver sugarbeets, it is also because the people who did deliver were impacted by the profitability of the co-op.” Northey credits North Dakota Senator John Hoeven and Minnesota Congressman Collin Peterson for their efforts on the sugarbeet disaster measures. “This is income directly to the co-op and they will not keep any of it and pass it directly through to their producers on a formula that works for that co-op.”
