Farm Service Agency Administrator Richard Fordyce joined state potato managers to talk about quality issues in the WHIP Plus program. “With the inclusion of the WHIP Plus program, they’re trying to define what that means, how to relate it to a loss and how to calculate. Fordyce did say there would probably be more losses than dollars available to cover the losses,” explained Donavon Johnson, president, Northern Plains Potato Growers Association. We asked specifically for a time frame in which dollars may be paid out and he said it was definitely in the area of weeks. It’s still a ways off.” Johnson and local potato growers were in Washington D.C. for a Potato Industry Fly-In.
