If farmers must go into a grain bin, Rural Firefighters Delivering Agricultural Safety and Health instructor Jim Zwaschka recommends shutting off machinery and wearing a harness. “Use a device you can be retracted with,” says Zwaschka. “When I talk about a harness, I’m talking about one attached to the center of the bin and to the outside of the grain bin.” Be sure to tell someone if you plan to work around grain bins.
