North Dakota Senator John Hoeven says meetings continued this week with the USDA on the WHIP Plus program payments. He’s been meeting with Under Secretary Bill Northey and Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue. “On the disaster assistance, we’ve been going back and forth on how to do it. I’d like to bring it to conclusion as soon as we can and we hope to have an update on timelines next week.” Hoeven says it’s important to keep these discussions moving. “We’ve put in proposals on how to do disaster assistance. They haven’t agreed to that yet, because they’re still trying to determine how much need is out there. We are negotiating with them. It’s more working to get something we think is good and doing it a right, fair way.”
