South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem responded to the movement of hemp legislation on Thursday. “I’m hopeful we’ll get to a point where there’s a bill that responsibly address the hemp program and I’ll considering signing it.” If the bill continues to move forward, Noem says the budget bill will have to put funding aside to run the hemp program. She says funding hemp was not in her budget recommendations, because it’s not a priority for her. “I’ve been very clear I still don’t think it’s a good idea. That’s why you didn’t see it in my budget,” explains Noem. “If the lawmakers want to move money to prioritize this, that’s the legislative process.”
