The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement is considered positive for the U.S. potato industry. Ratification of the agreement is still needed by Canada. “We anticipate Canada will do that relatively quickly. Then, things will turn to simply implementing the agreement, ensuring the terms of the new USMCA are followed,” says Kam Quarles, CEO, National Potato Council. “The big one for us is beyond the tariffs. We are very optimistic we’re going to be able to push forward in getting fresh potato market access to Mexico. That’s been a long running battle for the U.S. potato industry.”
