The NRCS has launched the Conservation Assessment Ranking Tool. NRCS Chief Matt Lohr highlighted CART during an appearance before congressional subcommittee Tuesday. “It will actually do an assessment on what practices are most beneficial for that operation and automatically rank them for the programs that are the best fit for them.” House Agriculture Committee Chair Collin Peterson criticized this streamlining effort. “I don’t see that this will do any good other than give people a chance to lobby your department and come up with more damn crazy regulations that are going to screw things up.” Lohr defended CART, saying it will reduce red tape and redundancy.
