With the phase one trade agreement, China will purchase an additional $32 billion in U.S. agricultural products over the next two years. NDSU Extension Crops Economist Frayne Olson says it is unclear what happens after those first two years. “We don’t know what the sunset is; is it a five-year agreement, a ten-year agreement or a perpetual agreement?” Olson says the trade waiting to see the text of the agreement. “The structure of that agreement is going to have a pretty significant impact on how this plays out.”
