Total Farm Marketing Senior Market Advisor Bryan Doherty says the market lessons learned in 2019 are two-fold. “Markets can move quickly. One week you shouldn’t sell and the next week, farmers should have sold everything.” He also says a good balanced approach to the markets in 2020 is important. “When prices rally, make sure you have target points to sell old crop and new crop. One of these years, the weather will have more impact than just a small reduction in yield. Maybe that’s the other lesson learned,” says Doherty. “Wet weather is still a good problem to have. Rain makes grain and that’s not what everyone wants to hear if it’s been tough.”
