American Crystal Sugar Company General Agronomist Joe Hastings says final yield and sugar were lower than expected, but still not bad considering the growing season. “We averaged 27.1 tons. We were forecasting 28.5 tons for the yield,” says Hastings. “We would have been close to that if we harvested the rest of the crop. We had a nice crop, but couldn’t get to it.” Hastings is thankful for the cooperative structure of American Crystal. “We are all in it together: the shareholders and employees. We have great people to work with and that’s always a positive no matter what kind of a year we have.”
