Volga, South farmer Scott VanderWal only planted half of his intended acres this past spring. This fall has been tough as well with snow and rain, but VanderWal is making harvest progress. “We’ve harvested most of the soybeans, but there is quite a ways to go on corn.” These challenges also transition to farm policy, where VanderWal serves as American Farm Bureau Federation vice president. “Right now there is a full court press on passing the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement through the House of Representatives,” says VanderWal. “We think there is a good chance of that happening. Chairman Peterson made the comment that it’s Speaker Pelosi’s goal to get it done by the end of the year.
