Mother Nature has not been kind to farmers this fall. Moisture levels and equipment repair bills are above the norm. East River LLP owner Tim Hoggarth says farmers are waiting to make their seed decisions for 2020. “I fully expect those decisions to be delayed up through January.” Hoggarth and other input suppliers are working with growers to maneuver through this tight economy. Farmers are still slow to lock in purchases for next season. “Most of the guys that I’ve done a lot of business over the years are the proverbial pre-pay guys that take advantage of the full cash discounts in October and this year, I haven’t done half of those guys. There’s just not a lot of cash out there.” East River implemented an in-house zero financing program to assist customers.
