House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson doesn’t plan to announce his intentions for the 2020 elections until after January 1. The decision may hinge on the next farm bill. “I can win; I’m not worried about that,” said Peterson. “The issue is if I want to stay around to do a another farm bill because basically I’d have to stay three more terms if I want to do that.” The makeup of the congressional district will also change after reapportionment in 2022. “It could be that just about everybody from farm districts are Republicans. We (Democrats) could still have the majority and we’d have an ag committee with no one from farm districts except me and that’s what I have to figure out.” There are five Republican candidates that have announced plans to run for Minnesota’s seventh congressional districts.
