USDA’s plan to implement electronic identification tags has been suspended by the Animal Plant Health Inspection Service. Originally, electronic tags were to be required as official identification of cattle and bison by 2023 under the Animal Disease Traceability program. The decision was based on livestock industry feedback. APHIS is taking time to “reconsider the path forward and then make a new proposal, with ample opportunity for all stakeholders to comment” Read the statement.
