Argentina is getting a new president. Alberto Fernandez defeated incumbent Mauricio Macri. Macri had broad support from Argentine farmers, but was criticized for ongoing economic problems. Argentina’s new vice president is former President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner. During her administration, the government increased taxes on soybean exports and farmers responded with mass protests and road blockades.
