There’s not much harvesting underway near Volga, South Dakota, due to wet fields. Farmer Scott VanderWal says the October blizzard didn’t accumulate much, but snow can cause a mess. “The moisture in the corn is still in the low to upper 20s. A few of us want to put up corn stalk bales for bedding and feed,” says VanderWal. “We aren’t getting close on that and we’re running out of time for drying weather.” VanderWal says most of the corn is black layered. “The corn that was planted really late was chopped for silage.”
