Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler is in North Dakota today for a roundtable discussion on the Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule. North Dakota Grain Growers Association president Jeff Mertz is cautiously optimistic about the discussion. “There’s been a change since the Trump administration to a non-regulatory type of environment. It will be interesting to see how the new WOTUS rule will come out,” says Mertz. “The former WOTUS rule would have made a big impact on North Dakota farmers, opening up a can of worms on regulatory processes.” Mertz says the association will work closely with the EPA on the new rule moving forward.
