Wheat growers are pleased with the reduction in tariffs in the new trade agreement between the U.S. and Japan. U.S. Wheat Associates President Vince Peterson says the details are simple for wheat. “The implementation is the same for the tariff schedule Australia and Canada’s wheat is subject to. That was what was agreed to under the Trans-Pacific Partnership,” says Peterson. “We’re all on the same playing field.” Peterson says there is also a relatively small, but country specific quota, reinstated in the agreement. “We gained that back, a competitive foothold in the marketplace, which puts us exactly where we need to be.”
