Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen says this site is in a new area for the invasive weed. “Several hundred plants were discovered in a small hay field in far southeastern Minnesota in Houston County. Other Palmer finds have been more on the western side of the state.” The field has been mowed and burned off to destroy any plants, seedlings or seeds produced this season. The site will be monitored for three years to determine if any new Palmer amaranth plants are found. Palmer was first discovered in Minnesota in 2016 and has now been found in eight Minnesota counties.
