The slow spring wheat harvest in the Northern Plains is finally catching the attention of market analysts. “There’s some major problems with the spring wheat quality. It had all of the potential in the world and then, sat out in the rain for a few months,” said Tommy Grisafi, risk management advisor, Advance Trading. “The words sprouting and falling numbers aren’t good terms if you’re still trying to harvest spring wheat.” Grisafi says if farmers have a decent spring wheat crop, it could be an interesting, volatile time for the markets. “Millers may have to figure out what to do to get higher quality wheat moving forward.”
