Warmer temperatures will benefit the slow maturing corn across the region. Pioneer product agronomist Zach Fore says whether or not the corn will reach the finish line depends on the location. “There are some areas in North Dakota and Minnesota sitting pretty decent. There are others behind on growing degree units,” he says. “If we can get our corn to half milk line, that gives us about 90 percent of yield. Decent heat can help us dry down the crop.” Fore is optimistic for decent progress through the end of the month. “Going frost free for a period of time is beneficial for the soybeans. We’ll get soybeans turning rapidly and a vast majority of the crop could get to maturity in good shape,” says Fore. “I’m optimistic about soybeans. They’re more sensitive to the time of year and less to heat accumulation.”
