South Dakota State University Extension Crops Business Management Field Specialist Jack Davis says profitability is tough in South Dakota this year. He recommends farmers keep finances tight and only invest in efficiencies, if needed. “Don’t over invest. If farmers have money to invest it needs to improve efficiencies on the farm,” says Davis. “It’s all about keeping cash flow going and staying tight. If farmers had unpriced inventory, they’ve had a chance to clean out the bins, but growing this year has been tough.” Davis was a featured speaker during Dakotafest this past week.
