Tyson Foods says it is working as quickly as possible to get its Holcomb, Kansas beef processing plant back online after fire caused major damage. Communications director Liz Cromston says Tyson is still assessing the damage. “There was quite a bit of smoke damage. We’re doing lots of cleaning right now. Once that is complete, then we can have a full understanding, assess the damage and go from there.” During a press briefing, Tyson says the square footage of the damage is small compared to the footprint of the entire plant, but the fire impacted critical operating systems including the electrical system. A spark from a welder doing maintenance is thought to have caused the fire.
