The U.S. and China didn’t make much progress in last week’s in-person meetings. Since then, President Trump has announced more tariffs could be on the way for China. Trump has also pledged to stand with American farmers in times of retaliation. North Dakota Senator John Hoeven says the U.S. needs to keep pushing on the Chinese in these trade negotiations. “I think most of what they negotiated for agriculture and energy is good, but it’s the enforcement part is really a problem.” Hoeven says the U.S. needs to keep pushing for other trade agreements. “I think everyone recognizes China is a problem. They’re violating the rules. That’s no good. I keep trying to get the administration to get ag purchases while negotiating. They’re trying to do that.”
