House lawmakers didn’t ratify the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement before the August recess. House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson says no one knows for sure the path forward on getting USMCA ratified. Talking with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, Peterson says there is hope to get additional votes for ratification in the fall. “As long as the North American Free Trade Agreement stays in place, in my opinion, it doesn’t make a big difference in agriculture whether we have NAFTA or the new agreement. It’s not significantly different. A delay is not the end of the world and I think we are on track to get it done.”
