U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will arrive in Shanghai later today, participating in trade talks with Chinese Vice Premier Liu He Tuesday and Wednesday. President Donald Trump did not sound optimistic when he met with reporters on Friday. “I don’t know if they make a deal, maybe they will and maybe they won’t. I don’t care because we’re taking in tens of billions of dollars worth of tariffs and the farmers are happy because I gave them $16 billion out of the tariffs.” Meanwhile, China’s official news agency says several million tons of U.S. soybeans have been shipped to China since Presidents Trump and Xi agreed to restart trade talks last month. Chinese companies have also sought tariff waivers and are pricing soybeans, wheat, corn, pork and dairy products.
